In search of eating disorder specialist in Chapel Hill, NC

A loved one needs a recommendation for a therapist who specializes in eating disorders in the Durham/Chapel Hill, NC area. The UNC eating disorders program is not an option. Blue Cross network would be ideal, but is not required.

Any success stories with a therapist in the area would also be greatly appreciated.

You might want to consider The Fat Nutritionist, who does web-based sessions.

Duke University has an eating disorders program.

I don't know of a particular therapist in the area (but I can recommend something-fishy.org, nationaleatingdisorders.org, and iaedp.com for searchable directories of professionals who specialize in eating disorders), but just wanted to throw in that therapists and nutritionists are not the same thing. Some nutritionists are also therapists, but it isn't exactly a given.

Also, the Renfrew Center is pretty highly regarded by professionals across the US, but I know Charlotte is not Chapel Hill. In the event that, at some point in the future, your loved one is at a point where residential treatment would be beneficial, I strongly recommend checking it out.

If you don't get a name here, I would call Renfrew in Charlotte to ask for names. They should have the names of multiple therapists (and nutritionists and psychiatrists, if needed) who specialize in eating disorders in your area, as they must have patients coming from all over NC who need therapists when they return home.

Carolina House in Durham is residential, but once again they might be able to give you names of local outpatient therapists.
