Pretty sure it's not the Karate Kid...

I'm trying to find the name of this movie, or perhaps figure out if it was all in my head. I saw it on TV in the UK probably 15 years ago, and it is sort of like the Karate Kid, but not...

In general, it involved a wise master who is training a young American (?) kid to fight. I remember three scenes. I am reasonably certain that it is not any of the Karate Kid movies, though I can't say for sure.

1) There is some kind of altercation going on in an urban environment, and the master walks across a pit of wet concrete - without falling in. The evil henchmen probably fall in a bit later.

2) The master has constructed a crazy and really dangerous-looking balance course in an abandoned warehouse or some other large indoor space. The student is trying to get through the balance course without falling. Just as he is about to reach the end, the master leaves, turning off all the lights and telling him to do it again in the dark. At this point the student may have fallen.

3) Near the end of the movie, the master is locked up in the back of a van which goes off the road and rolls down the side of a large hill. The student and possibly the student's love interest run down the hill and find the van, and they are concerned that the master is dead. But once they are able to pry the doors open, the master emerges with a broken handle in his hand, and complains about how modern cars are cheaply constructed or something like that.

I have been wracking my brain for months trying to remember what this movie is, because I'd like to see it again.

I know this sounds like one of the Karate Kid movies. But - I have seen the Karate Kid Part I and so I know that's not it. I have read the plot synopses for the other 3 Karate Kid movies and have found no indication of any of these scenes within them.

Still, I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong. Thank you so much!

Best answer: Not young, but Remo Williams (aka Remo: Unarmed and Dangerous) maybe? Pretty sure the lights out / obstacle course scene is in there.

Best answer: The main character "dies" at the beginning and is inducted into a super-secret program?
There's a bad-guy who has a diamond set into one of his teeth, which the protagonist later uses to cut through plate glass?

Sounds like Remo Williams to me.

Could it have been one of the six (yes, six) Karate Warrior films?

Best answer: Remo Williams. The balance scene can be seen in this video. The van scene can be seen at the end of this video.
