Extracting MTS AVCHD audio

What's the best way to extract audio from MTS (AVCHD) video file into CD-writable format (WAV or MP3) on a low-powered Windows XP laptop (netbook)? Free/cheap and simple software is preferable.

Response by poster: UPDATE: quality can be mediocre -- only good enough to listen to and be able to transcribe for translation.
