Looking for podcasts about music

I'm looking for podcasts about music. They can be about any kind of music - I'm particularly interested in classical music and new-release "indie" pop/rock - but the thing I'm most interested in is compelling and informative commentary and conversation about the music that they play. I want the insider info! I want to feel smarter, more informed, more hip! Thanks, y'all.

Best answer: For indie rock, check out the Musicheads podcast from Minnesota Public Radio's station the Current.

Best answer: All songs Considered. Via itunes.

For some reason I couldn't find it via google, but the local college station, KCPR 91.3fm has a new music show called "New Releases." The name's not too catchy, but the music directors (aka the folks who sort through the 200+ CDs and few records we get a week and sort out the top 10-20) play all the new adds (those top 10-20 CDs or records) for 2 hours. Sometimes they talk about the music, sometimes they just play the songs.

And just when I got so excited about finding the wordpress site, I realize there are only 2 podcasts up. Teh suck. Anyhow, we do stream live, and though the kcpr.org website is depressingly out of date (the station tour is our old station, which is now shiny new Journalism offices), the schedule looks good. Some shows do podcast their sets, but I don't know which.

In a sad summary, tune in while you're at a computer, and you'll most likely hear a live DJ spinning something new and interesting.

* For full disclosure, I host two shows there, neither of which play any indie pop/rock or classical. But we are one of the many stations that broadcasts the Met Opera Saturday Matinees.

2nding Sound Opinions, it's almost like the Ebert and Roeper of music shows. Have you checked out anything by WFMU-FM? They have a good range of podcasts covering a few genres.

Playlist Mix is excellent, interesting, varied, always indie, and just won an award for best music site, so that's worth a download or three.

+1 to All Songs Considered. Also checkout Morning Becomes Eclectic from KCRW.

Best answer: Bah, I should contribute something new. The Irish and Celtic Music Podcast is also great. If you're not into celtic music, this could easily get you hooked.

Check out That Sound. I credit this podcast as more or less *really* getting me into the indie music scene, as well as keeping me apprised of what all is out there. It originates out of Portland college radio, and it usually updated every week to two weeks, and lasts an hour.

Nthing All Songs Considered's podcast - it's typically pretty short (30 minutes or so) but host Bob Boilen has an incredibly broad music preference, coupled with a deep knowledge of what he plays.

I haven't heard it myself, but my friend raves about Aquarium Drunkard.

self-plug: The Music of Masterworks.

Tough to do a really compelling Classical podcast, I think. We're rejiggering ours.

Best answer: Another vote for All Songs Considered. Every couple of months they have a particularly good show with guests and lots of insider information. They are usually called something like "Fall Music Preview" or "Year in Review." Don't miss those.
