RNC protest slogans wanted
August 19, 2004 1:20 PM   Subscribe

Does anyone have suggestions for short, articulate protest slogans for the RNC?

I'm looking for short phrases that can be displayed on a sign or stencil that encapsulate some of the major disagreements and complaints against the Republican platform, or sites with lists of the same. Preferably TV friendly and not too bilious. I'm not looking to debate any issues in this thread, just slogans, please. (if you feel the need to get your snark on, please re-read the question, count to 10, and limit your response to helpful suggestions)

Best one I saw at the Kerry rally iin Vegas was "Help Re-Defeat Bush."

Prolly not what you're looking for, though.

Look at some Anti-Bush bumper stickers.

Not being snarky, but don't mention Mumia. I always hate when protests have "Free Mumia" signs at events that have nothing to do with him.

I'm partial to Kerry Sucks Less. I've been thinking of putting that one up on my lawn.

Response by poster: This Dailykos thread didn't get many responses, but it's the right direction,
also I think Billionaires for Bush has some clever ones, but they only work in situ.

Hi, paris, trouble with written instructions perhaps?

Response by poster: OK, political incorrectness acknowledged, thanks for the help.

Here's a page that points in the right direction, but they are very media specific, I'm looking for more general issues, gay marriage, taxes and general corruptness. Obviously, things like "no blood for oil" or "impeach Bush" are right out.

my favorite seen elsewhere:

some others:
the rich get welfare--the poor get warfare

osama who?

and of course, using his own words:
"Is our children learning?"

"Iraq is free of rape rooms and torture chambers."

"Bring 'em on."

"There ought to be limits to freedom."

"I DO KNOW I'M READY FOR THE JOB. AND, IF NOT, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT GOES." - Bush, AUG. 21, 2000 (others here and here)

Or, we could NOT protest the RNC, thereby giving the republicans the press they desire, and thereby losing valuable swing votes in an election that may come down to the slimmest of margins.

What?

Too focused on results instead of the protestors' ego? my bad.

in the sense that protesting would give them the results they want. Stupid multiple ways of parsing sentences.

I'm with JKF. Protest is passe, in that it lost its effectiveness at least 10 years ago in the US, if not further back, and the timer on that was set when protestors abandoned the concept of dignity.

Protest is now credible in personal medium (when tempered with humor w/o much bile) or when you dress up in a suit to do your walking and talking.

Ah, fuck, I can't resist:

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments

He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the Lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting large armies of foreign mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

Response by poster: He has affected ... totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.

Interesting, but with any of the printers or paint that I have, it's not going to fit on a sign or a stencil and still be readable.

Or, we could NOT protest the RNC, thereby giving the republicans the press they desire,

JKF, While I'm generally a big fan of it, I'm just not convinced that apathy is the right response in this instance.

peaceful protest, with diverse groups (hippies to union members to vets to us fags to seniors to children left behind to the unemployed, etc) has enormous potential to show the country just how many groups have been hurt by this president. ("I'm a uniter, not a divider" may actually come true, but it's united against Bush)

No one said be apathetic, but that doesn't mean you participate in things that HELP your enemy. Protesting makes the RNC: both look good in comparison, and a bigger news story.

Perhaps you could use this energy to register voters in a democratic neighborhood in a nearby swing state? (cough*Pennsylvania*cough)
