I need a new (for me) desk chair. Can someone recommend a good used office furniture store in NYC?
Response by poster: I really want to sit in a few chairs before I make my decision. I'd rather not trot around town looking at individual chairs and wondering how coffee stains and broke wheels qualify as "like new". Much better odds of getting a good chair pulled from a large lot.

And, er, cos in the first 100 furniture postings there isn't a single desk chair? What sort of answer is that, KirTakat?

Response by poster: OK, I honestly think CL is a lousy suggestion (I specifically asked for a store), but that's kinda harsh. There are plenty of office chairs for sale, but "black leather office chair" applies to a wide range of quality.

how much do you want to spend?
Ikea chairs can be as little as $50-100, herman miller aeron chairs can be more than $700-800

And seriously, I wasn't trying to be snarky with my response, I was asking if there was some reason it wouldn't work.

OK, this isn't a perfect answer, but in case you don't get any better suggestions, here goes.
I was hoping that Apartment Therapy could you help you out but I don't see any office resellers listed in their resources page. Still, a good chunk of their content is New York specific and they have a lot of New York readers, so I think you could pose this question in one of their open threads and get some good leads.
How I found an awesome, cheap office chair: I went to several decent (read: not Office Depot) office stores and tried out the chairs. I found a couple brands I liked and then looked for a local seller on Ebay. I got a nearly brand new Steelcase chair for less than $50 from a guy who had bought up a set at an office liquidation sale.

I've never been there, but Two Jakes in Brooklyn looks like teh cool. They've got an extensive secondhand section.

Is there any reason you can't buy a new chair at Staples or Office Depot for c. $100? I have purchased two in that range and they have been very good dependable chairs. I weigh 280 and am hard as heck on chairs.
