Song Mashups

What are some good mashups that you've downloaded lately?

I've really been enjoying some of the mashups I've heard lately- The Grey Album goes without saying, as well as: Green Day/Oasis/Travis "Boulevard of Broken Songs". I've also lately enjoyed the Strokes/Christina Aguilera mashup "A Stroke of Genius" and the amazing Aretha/George Michael/Beatles/Scissor Sisters' mashup "No One Takes Your Freedom".

These are great. I particularly like "Tax Jam Pollution" but they are all pretty good.

Go Home Productions - Karma in the Life is ace.

Soundhog and IDC do some good stuff too but at the moment Go Home Productions are doing the best stuff. IMHO.

I've yet to listen to the recently released strictly kev - raiding the 20th century, the history of the cutup, refix 2005 but the original raiding the 20th century was great. Also A Night At The Hip-Hopera by The Kleptones was suitably awesome.

(although the Jet song doesn't add much to an already perfect record, and asking about bootlegs when it's not 2002 is practically performance art in its absurdity)

I haven't heard any good mashups lately. Don't know if the fad is over or something, but most of the new stuff doesn't "mash" very well. Like the Karma Police/Day in the Life mashup. A good idea, poorly executed.

The last really good mashup I heard was a while ago -- DJ Danger Mouse vs. Zero 7 - "Somersault". I wish all mashups were this well-produced and matched.

If anyone can recommend similarly-well produced endeavors, I'm all ears.

No One Takes Your Freedom by DJ Earworm (Beatles vs. Scissor Sisters). I'm having trouble getting this link to work but you can probably find it on your friendly neighborhood file-sharing service.

Strictly Kev's 20th Century piece is a little too much for me, but it's got very good production quality to it. I guess I just prefer "songs" to "art". I'm going to go back on my statement before because I hadn't heard the Revolver mix, which is quite excellent. I really loved "Rush of Love".

More towards the Strictly Kev side of things, frenchbloke's "Everything you do is wrong,' on Boomselection, is the dog's bollocks. 80 minutes, 98 cuts, everyone from Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode to Crass, The Stranglers, Stockhausen, Devo, Bauhaus, The Undertones, Test Dept., Coil, Conet Project, and many more.

Is there any websites that track full "album" type releases? I've got all the major stuff (Beatles vs. others, the Queen Hip Hop one), but am sure there is more out there. Weren't there supposed to be a bunch collaborative albums being made?

If you prefer 'songs' to 'art,' check out 2 Many DJ's.

DJ P's Suck My Mixx is very good, though he'd make a point of saying it's not a mashup.

And speaking of single songs, I like the version of Billy Joel's 'My Life' a cappella over Jay-Z's 'Big Pimpin' instrumental that I downloaded recently.

pwb - Go to DJ Danger Mouse's website. Is uses Flash, but it's actually not obnoxious (continuous streams of his music). You should be able to download them there.

Oh, and I just remembered: Dr. Octopodular's "One Minute Man" remix (Herbaliser vs. Missy Elliot) is worth mention, as is DJ Fancy Dan's Sinead O'Connor/Eamon mashup (interesting psychology of it). I thought The Beastles album was somewhat hit or miss, but "Pass the Word" was good. And then there's the Asha Bhonsle / Nelly Furtado "Like a Bird" mix, which is IMO seamless, tip-top work.

Yeah, I find that GoHomeProductions has reliably great stuff (my iTunes mash-up playlist shows 66 G.H.P. tracks). Others I've come across have been hit and miss (although sometimes it's just because I don't like one of the songs).

A couple I especially like:

"Pass the Word" (The Beastie Boys' Pass the Mic vs The Beatles' Say the Word) by Goddam Guest

"Toxic Love Shack" (Britney Spear's Toxic vs B-52's Love Shack) by DJ Dubz

(I couldn't find any good links for those two anymore)

And, a bit cheesy with it's Super Mario clips but, I got to admit liking cry.on.my.console's "Superlangalang!".

2ManyDJs are the absolute unequivocal kings of the mash up. You can stream loads of mixes from their website, and you can buy their definitive mixes from Amazon - Pt2's their most famous one. I first heard Stroke Of Genius (by Freelance Hellraiser btw) in one of their mixes.
