AmsterdamFilter: Decent hotels w/smoking rooms? Looking for centrally located hotel with smoking rooms.

All hotels we find claim new legislation doesn't allow smoking. But the official site contradicts that (had the same thing in Paris, actually, where the official word is, hotel rooms are exempt).

Looking for something mid-upper quality, close to Central Station. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

We actually just got from Amsterdam a few months ago. Here's the deal (as best as I understood):

A new law requires that indoor smoking (any kind of smoking) in any non-residential building have a separate, dedicated room. The law took effect in June and there seemed to be some speculation as to how the ever-popular "coffee shops" would accommodate this new law. Apparently, this also seems to be the problem with hotels as well (they'd rather just disallow smoking then build new rooms).

Anyway, we stayed at Youth Meeting Point Hostel (open to more than just "youths") - it was about 5 minute walk from central station and they may allow smoking since their bar was a separate enclosed room (still a long shot though). If nothing else, they know the city well and could probably point you in the right direction.

Does it have to be a hotel? On our last visit we rented an apartment - cheaper than a hotel with a full kitchen, etc and no such restrictions. I think we just googled 'holiday apartment amsterdam' and went through the results until we found something suitable.

Goo: Hadn't thought of that, but it would have to include housekeeping. We have running around to do. But looks like we're staying at the Black Tulip, which has a fabulous location and is amazingly affordable. And that's apart from the play equipment in the room :-O
