Mr. Sexypants. What a cute puppy.
Seriously, though, whatever you choose, give the dog a real name. I want to kill everyone I see who gives his pet a name like Bubbles (or Cupcake). I generally abide by the rule of "would you name your child that?" posted by phunniemee at 9:15 PM on July 11

phunniemee, the whole point of naming a pet is that you don't have to give it a "normal" name. It's not going to get made fun of by the other dogs at puppy school! posted by radioamy at 9:25 PM on July 11

The first thought that came to mind was Butterscotch and I looked for translations & synonyms that might sound more interesting, but didn't come up with anything except for Tawny or Honey, which might not fit the bill. Other things that come to mind: Ramona (as in Quimby from the Beverly Cleary books), Asha (which mean hope in Arabic), Dulcinea (there seems to be something very sweet about her). Once we adopted two dogs, the girl we named immediately (Harper), but the boy took some work and we spontaneously settled on Reilly which fit him perfectly. Something might come to you as soon as you get to know her a bit more. I tend to look towards books and plays for inspiration. Good luck! posted by katemcd at 9:51 PM on July 11
Tallulah, after Tallulah Bankhead - a famous dancer of the 1920s. Your girl is set to be a real head-turner and she looks like a diva ... :-) posted by Susurration at 9:53 PM on July 11 [1 favorite]

Muffin. That was the first thing that popped into my head. posted by MadamM at 10:52 PM on July 11
I used to always name my all my pets human names but that sort of backfired when we had a kid and the dog was already named with my number one choice for a name. Doh.
That little pup looks like a Toffee to me. posted by jamaro at 10:58 PM on July 11
What a beautiful pup! I love jamaro's suggestion for Toffee or even Butterscotch, with Scotch for short (a nod to the red hair). posted by ceri richard at 11:22 PM on July 11
Whats something that's been influential and prevalent in your life, without being too on-the-nose?
When I adopted my two cats, I knew that if I got a female cat, it woud be named "Fitz," after Ella Fitzgerald. This was because of a cat named "Mingus" which an old room mate stole from me.
Upon meeting the first cat I knew would be part f my household, who was the biggest troublemaker in BARC, I knew that "Fitz" just fit him perfectly, despite being male. After all, he was always having fits of something or other.
Couldn't come up with a proper name for the other one, though, a sweet, docile little kitten whose two brothers had been adopted together, leaving him behind. My friend suggested that if one was named Fitzgerald, the other should be named "Zelda." No, he's a boy, I relied. "Gatsby, then," she said. And it was perfect.
As it turns out, "Fitz" ad "Gatsby" are both names which have very personal meanings for me in my life, and which I hadn't pieced together until that moment.
Your new dog is absolutely adorable, and I'm sure she'll be a joy to you and your family. But none of the names we come up with will be right. Dig deep for something that means something to you. posted by Navelgazer at 11:25 PM on July 11
Figure out the names to some prominent ewoks. The dog definitely looks like an ewok. posted by milqman at 11:26 PM on July 11

I know I'm late to this show and there's a hundred answers in front of this one; still, I want my voice heard in this here choir. As follows:
Let her 'name herself' ie let her personality and/or dominant traits help you, with her, to settle upon a name. I had a great German Shepard, lo those long years ago, and she bonded to me fast, she followed me everywhere I went, she shadowed my every step -- I named her Shadow. I mean, yeah, I could have just called her Myrtle, right out of the box as it were, but quite frankly I think that Shadow is a lot cooler name than Myrtle or Loofah or Doofy or Griselda or what have you.
Nthing "Taffy." As soon as I read that suggestion, the pup's picture popped into my mind and I thought she does look like a Taffy. Perhaps a "Taffy Anne" if she's naughty. (Does anyone else spontaneously add a middle name to their pet that eventually sticks? I've done this in recent years with my greyhound and our current cat.) posted by Oriole Adams at 10:22 AM on July 12
Er, um, no, I don't have a name suggestion. But I am partial to Noodle and Celia.
Please do update us on what you eventually name this reeeeedonkulously adorable pup. posted by computech_apolloniajames at 11:49 AM on July 12
I am a big fan of food names for pets (I had a kitten named Tempura, and when my friend couldn't name his kitten I came up with Pepper, which stuck). So I vote for previously mentioned Toffee, Taffy, or Butterscotch.
Oriole Adams, our dog Honey (see above about food names) became Honey Petunia. posted by radioamy at 11:55 AM on July 12
She looks like a Doodle to me. Noodle, like computech_apolloniajames suggested, would also be acceptable. I also like Saturn, for some reason. Or Cleo.
She is absolutely adorable!! I'm jealous! posted by lilac girl at 12:02 PM on July 12
