Camping < 2hours from Kansas City? Difficulty: On a scooter.
I've camped all over the area, but it's been a couple years. I've got the itch to go out on my own and escape for a couple days the weekend following the 4th. I'll be riding my scooter, so absolute max road speed is 55, preferably 45. Currently I'm looking at Arrow Rock via 24 Hwy. Free camping would a be a plus too.

You might want to ask the folks over at ScooterBBS. I'm given to understand that some are crazy enough to ride their vintage Vespas to rallies that are hundreds of miles from where they live :)

I even found the page on it from my Hiking Missouri book Online!
Disclaimer: I have not been there.
There is also the Piney Creek Wilderness, near Branson. You could just camp alongside one of the trails there.
