Anyone know the name of that mid 1990s Cracker instrumental guitar rave up jam?

Looking for an instrumental Cracker tune from about 10-12 years ago?

It was on a promotional CD for Yahoo's music offering "Launch" that I got when I bought a Sony Vaio computer back in 1996 or so. I don't know if it was a cover of an old surf tune, but had a great guitar hook in it. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Surfbilly on the Garage d'Or album? It's a greatest hits / B-sides double CD.

Response by poster: I know that tune... but that's not it, unfortunately. It's something else.

Was it a Jesus versus the Devil surfing for souls contest? (We have a very old Launch CD with that song on it)

For reference, let's start here.

Response by poster: I think that might be it, aetg, but can't seem to locate an MP3 to verify it.

Sent via email to you. The whole song isn't instrumental, but the beginning has a long guitar riff. Wish I still had the liner notes, I don't even know which artists are on the cd.

Response by poster: Thanks, Amanda. I appreciate that... unfortunately, that's not the one. Maybe I imagined it was Cracker.

Any chance it was actually Uncle Kracker?

Response by poster: Nope, no chance... it was definitely Cracker. I remember reading it on the Launch promo CD liner notes, when I bought the computer in the fall of 96, but threw it away a long time ago.

I've asked on the Cracker board so hopefully that will turn up something. I'm a big fan but I'm drawing a complete blank here. Unfortunately, I only have access to my Cracker CDs; most of my mp3s are on my still-packed-up desktop and I don't have a monitor at the moment so it'd be tough to use the comp.

Per this, the suggestions are Hans' Lament, Steve's Hornpipe, and Surfbilly.

And for those interested, the Jesus vs. the Devil surfing for souls song is "The Devil Went Down to Newport" by Monopuff (a side project of John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants).
