Great article about methadone?

A few years ago I read an article about the history of and current research on methadone. I thought it was in the New Yorker, but I can't find a reference to it googling "methadone" with "New Yorker Magazine". I can't find any good article in any reputable magazine that explores this topic in depth but for a lay-audience (not in medicalise).

Sound familiar? Or can you recommend a similar investigative style article on the topic?

I might start with the Drug Policy Alliance web site and the Lindesmith library.

I just searched The New Yorker through LexisNexis. It came up with 5 articles mentioning methadone, and none of them went into detail (methadone was only mentioned in passing).

It's not morphine, but you might also be interested in buprenorphine. Here's a Wired article.

Could it have been this one in New York Magazine? The logo has a similar font to The New Yorker; I know I tend to confuse them online.

Hey occhiblu: I get the two confused too and that was an interesting article of the exact tone I was thinking of, but not the one I was looking for. Still, thanks for the link.

And thanks sbutler for doing a LexisNexis search for me. I guess it wasn't the New Yorker either.
