Looking for a Good Video Montage Freeware App

I'd like to put together a nice photo montage (put together from digital stills) with dubbing and/or background music. I'm looking for a freeware program that'll deliver a professional look and will allow me to save in the more popular formats, to eventually upload to YouTube and others. I'd rather it be a downloadable program and not work online. Can you help me find a good app?

If your on a mac (the OP does not say), why not use iMovie? It will do everything you want. (keep in mind that the pre-iLife 08 version of iMovie is significantly more capable than the new "iMovie" they replaced it with.)

And if you're on a PC, you can use the free Windows Movie Maker.

I'm on a PC - I thought about movie maker but it seems to hog down my system from resources - I'm using an older machine.

Slide Show Movie Maker will do such things. You need to install your own codecs. I last used the Divx free encoder.

Too bad you don't want an online solution - otherwise you would love Animoto.
