Why does my Macbook wake up with black bands on the screen?

About once a week, my MacBook Pro wakes from sleep with a 1" black band on each side of the screen. If I restart it at this point, the black bands will go away. What is going on?
I'm using Leopard (10.5.1), but I think it predates that. (2.16 intel, 1gb ram)

Sounds like a refresh issue with your display. I'd try hitting Alt-Command-P-R, and resetting the screen preferences following the chimes. If it still goes wonky, you may be suffering from the same issue that's plagued a number of MacBook owners; in that case, you'd want to hit the Genius Bar for service.
