Early/mid 90's American movie: Man enters bedroom and shoots a group of kids. What movie is this?

I'm trying to find the name of a movie that played on television in the early/mid 90's. I'm pretty sure it was American made and it was in color. I was only able to see a short clip of it which went something like this:

A car pulls up to a house (rural setting) and several children that had been playing outside silently walk inside the house and into an upstairs bedroom. A man enters the house, walks to the bedroom and closes the door on the camera, then fires a shotgun/rifle multiple times (presumably killing the kids).

I'm not able to find anything on IMDB.. any ideas of what it might be?

The Stepfather? Or The Stepfather II, starring everyone's favorite island hero, Terry O'Quinn?

Can't be Capote, could it be In Cold Blood?

Amityville Horror? The kids weren't playing outside first, though.

Fatal Vision (1984) was a TV movie about surgeon/Green Beret Jeffrey MacDonald. He was convicted of murdering his wife and two children in 1970, having tried to pin the blame on a drug-addled hippie gang. Flick starred Gary Cole as the murderous sawbones and Karl Malden and Eva Marie Saint as his inlaws, who were at first on his side, then later campaigned for his conviction.

In Fatal Vision, didn't he kill them in their sleep??

It's not Joe -- although "a car pulls up to a house (rural setting)" the shooting happens outdoors.

Yes, and in Fatal Vision, the girls (only 2) were in separate rooms.

Can you tell us anymore about it? Why did they go inside at sight of the man? They walked, didn't run from him?

It sounds like In Cold Blood to me, but that was black and white.

The killings in Fatal Vision didn't involve a shotgun (or other firearm).

Response by poster: Your suggestions led me to what I believe is my movie, Messenger of Death (1988)! I was able to find a trailer for it which showed the shotgun scene I remember. Finally, after years of curiosity I figured out why this guy murdered a room full of kids.

Thanks guys, honestly I never would have figured it out without you!
