HDV in and out again? Easy?

I want to import HDV footage straight from my HDV video camera (Sony) to my Sony VGX XL100 "Living Room PC" aka "Media Center", and then, if possible without reencoding it, play it out to my HD TV, or to my computer monitor. Is there software, or a software combination, to make this possible?

I suppose the question's really in two parts: how do I best get the footage in, and how do I best get it out to the display?

Also: if I have to reencode the footage, what's the best option to retain the maximum quality?

The Media Center's running XP and Windows Media Center 2005.

QuickTime pro 7.0 for windows doesn't work with HDV, btw (whereas QT pro for Mac does).

i dont know about capturing it (i use a demo program for the mac that's part of the firewire developer's kit) but mplayer will definitely play the mpeg2 straight from the camera.

oh yeah, VLC will probably handle it as well.

This product (CapDVHS) should be able to capture raw HDV MPEG2-TS stream from HDV camera.

I believe VLC should be able to play the resulting files. In fact a bit of reading suggests that VLC can also capture HDV - but I'm not going to try that right now.
