help me name a column about dance
June 11, 2007 1:42 PM

What is a good name for a monthly column about dance music?

Any suggestions appreciated. The column has a focus on new music, more about trends and the state of play rather than strictly releases. It would be nice if it could catch a hint of that in the title, but not strictly neccessary.

PS the column is about electronic dance music and clubbing, not salsa or anything like that.

"State Of Play" is good to me. Throw in a "The" at the beginning to sounds really pompous.

Too many BPM-derivatives exist.

The World Famous: It was supposed to be a double-entedre... stylus as in a writing instrument versus stylus as in a turntable component.

While I'm beating the subtelty out of things: groove as in a track of audio versus groove as in the feel of dance music.

OK, this might sound lame, but as soon as I read the "dance" part I thought of one of my favorite phrase: "Trip(ping) the light fantastic." Then I saw it was for club/dance music and it seemed to fit more...I don't know, strobe lights and whatnot? You could just shorten it to "The Light Fantastic" since it spotlights new music and trends...it sounded better in my head. But "The Light Fantastic" is also a Pratchet novel so I don't know if there's any problem with using that.

I like the Jitterthug suggestion. Or you could go with The Beatdown.

Also, doesn't dance music still come out on 12" vinyl? So, something alluding to that. Twelve-Inch Attack. Vinyl Siding. Uh...damn, my brushes with house music were too many years ago.

well, with 'monthly beat' you could have the 'monthly beat-off' to name the best new track...
