Circuit bending for dummies

I have a simple Sony reel-to-reel tape deck from the 1960's that I'd like to install a speed control on. Since I have no electronics skills, can anyone here recommend an ace 'circuit bender' in the Los Angeles area? Thanks :)

Try craigslist? Offer some money and some beers, maybe, and the cost of wire and a knob.

Ask on the Tape Op message boards, particularly the DIY section. Either someone might know someone, or they might even convince you that you can do it yourself.

Jeff is a nice guy from LA i met at the bent fests. He might be able to give you some advice.
