80's industrial song on a mix-tape from Houston
December 7, 2006 6:41 AM

Ever more song identification madness. Late 80's industrial dance song with a man's voice saying "close the window, won't you darling?" (or possibly "open the window, won't you darling?"). Fairly certain the lyric "I hate the light" (or "I hate delight") was prominent. I thought it was an A Split Second song, but my attempts to track it down have failed.

Your description brings to mind Only a Girl by Phaseshifter, but that's early 90s, I think. Hrrmmm...

D'oh - the album was Phaseshifter, the band was Redd Cross.

upon listening to the sample at amazon, i'd have to say "only a girl" is not even close. it was an industrial dance song of the mid 80's type: heavy production, mostly percussion, no prominent guitar riff, and male vocals of the sing-sing rather than singing sort.

Coil's Windowpain? From Love's Secret Domain?

i have windowpane and unless there's a radically different mix out there that i'm missing, it's not windowpane. the lyric had nothing to do with windows; it was just a sample at the very end (or possibly very beginning of the track).

Ah leave me! Flee the dread effect
Of a distracted love!
Close those windows; I hate the light,
I hate the air I breathe, I hate myself.
Who mocks at my grief? Who consoles me?
Ah fly; leave me alone, for pity's sake!

All I could think of was Mozart. When I put that together with industrial all I could think of was Throbbing Gristle. Which answered my other question.

Final update from the OP:
The song is "Cybernetics and Pavlovian Warfare" by A Split Second from the album Ballistic Statues, available at youtube here.

Just in case anyone randomly searching should *ever* care.
