Why did you stick those needles in my eyes? My daughter wants to know.

What song is this?

My daughter wants me to get a song for her, and she doesn't know the title or the artist. I have googled every combination of the lyrics below, no dice.

I bet her a dollar you would know.

"In my dreams in my dreams I feel alright
In my dreams in my dreams you're so nice
In my dreams in my dreams we're all best friends
In my dreams in my dreams I'm not beaten by you"

And

"So tell me why you stuck those needles in my eyes"

And

"You threw rocks at me and left me here to die"

The second two quotes sound strikingly similar to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen:

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye-
So you think you can love me and leave me to die-
Oh baby-cant do this to me baby-
Just gotta get out-just gotta get right outta here-

Response by poster: Thanks, but that's not it.

It's new-ish.

i'm going to ask for more info...my google fu and lyrics search engine queries turn up nothing.....Does she know if the singer is m/f, rock/r&b, pop radio?/music video?....The lyrical content leads me to think it's one of the new wave of emo/screamo/mall angst pretty boys...but thats just a guess from here....any extra info would help tons i think..good luck

Response by poster: No, I don't think so, davey.

I've never heard the song, but she sang the lyrics above very confidently. If they are wrong, they must be only a little wrong.

Stavx -- She says it is a male singer, and as she is thirteen, it could very well be some emo/screamo/mall angst pretty boys. It would be some sort of KROQ "alternative" pop music. But she doesn't like Korn, NIN, or things like that.

From the way she sang it, it could be someone like Green Day. But not.

Just a guess, but Alkaline Trio often has songs with needles in eyes and being left to die, although I don't know specifically what song it would be as I'm not familiar with their newer stuff. They're somewhat emo/mall angsty and have a male singer.

Flaming Lips redid Bohemian Rhapsody last year. I heard it on the radio the other day. Could that be it?

Response by poster: My speakers don't work, but I did go through the lyrics. It doesn't seem to be Alkaline Trio. I don't think it's overtly angsty and heavy like that.

At least as sung by the sweet little girl, it's sing-songy, self-deprecatingly angsty.
Like Weezer, or Green Day. But not.

Response by poster: Not Bohemian Rhapsody. That song I would know.

Man! With such a big chunk of lyric I thought it would be no problem. Maybe it's some local band that hasn't made it to teh interweb yet.

But now it is torturing me.
If anybody has an idea, please do throw it out.

Yeah, I did all sorts of googling with different pieces of the lyrics and came up with nothing.

I would post this question over at the Alternative Press forums: http://altpress.com/moshpit/ I bet you'll get your answer there!

Definitely *not* Alkaline Trio.

Okay seriously, does this song exist? It is positively not on Google!!!

If they're playing it on KROQ, perhaps it is on their most played or most requested lists?

Do you have a sample of the song?

Man, I can't believe how impossible this is!

It is not any of the 29 songs on KROQ's most played list.
posted by equalpants at 8:31 PM on June 27, 2006

...nor is it on the most requested list (all of them are also on the most played).

Response by poster: She didn't actually hear it on KROQ; she got it off somebody's iPod -- and yes, she is trying to get in touch with that person.

Thank you all for trying. I guess I owe her a dollar.

At first glance it reminded me of The Dark is Rising by Mercury Rev (which I hadn't heard for ages). It bears some similarity, but probably isn't right.
