Can anyone recommend a tour group for going to Machu Picchu? We would be looking for an age group of 30 - 60 and somebody who is very versed in the history and culture.

I travelled in South America with these people and they have this trip that might interest you. I highly recommend this company. My guide was fun, flexible and knowledgable. My email is in my profile if you want more info.

The New York Times just did an article on this with some useful up to date info and recommendations on several different tour companies at the back.

About six years ago, we used Qori Travel Service, which is a licensed Machu Picchu tour operator, and they were very good. As I remember it, it was also crazy cheap to go on a three-four day hike which included about 16 people, a guide and a few porters to carry tents, prepare meals for everyone, etc. We carried our own packs. They are on this list along with many others. We dealt with Rosa, who was very sweet. They also arranged for overnight bus tickets back to La Paz, which is another adventure in and of itself.

Butterfield and Robinson used to do a trip there. Check them out at butterfield.com.

Response by poster: Does anyone know what the best time of year to visit Machu Picchu is? I have also been researching GAP Adventures and I am curious if anyone can recommend them?
