Can my speakers be saved?

Oops, a really loud "boom" went over my computer speakers, and now they hiss way more than they should. Here's the thing. This isn't the first time. Oh yes, there will be...

Ok, I have Boston computer speakers. The problem is, a loud sound just went off and now I can't even listen to my music because of the hiss. I had the same problem with them before. I put them in storage, and after I got them back out a few months later they worked again.

I already tried unplugging/replugging them to their electrical and their input, but that doesn't work.

Please tell me I don't need new speakers.

Top quality speakers have circuit breakers on them. Usually it looks like a button that pops out. If there's such a thing, try pushing it back in again -- and then don't run your amplifier quite loudly.

You're sure you didn't just blow out your ears?
Spend some time in a quiet area, then try again.

Response by poster: To Steven C. Den Beste: These aren't exactly the highest quality. So, there's no button.

And gally 99, I may just have to take that advice.

Lower quality speakers sometimes have a fuse, either outside or inside. But if it blows, the speaker stops working entirely, so that's probably not what your problem is.
