Girl Goes Into Room, Ends Up in a Box of Cigarettes, What am I working with Here?

Name this book or short story: A girl locks herself in her room with a bucket for piss and a bucket to shit. She meditates herself into the desert from the packaging of a box of Camel cigarettes. Any of this information may be false, I'm working off a description I vaguely remember from ten years ago.

Man, I knew it, too! Also read Jitterbug Perfume, but really I've always thought of Robbins as a poor man's Thomas Pynchon. If you can handle it, try Mason & Dixon.
