Where can I get a mariachi or charro-style jacket for not too much?

New or used is fine, but I'm hoping to pay less than $50. I've been scouring thrift stores around Atlanta, and a few in Los Angeles, and I've also been monitoring EBay. There are places to buy online, but they're too expensive, and I really only need the jacket. Also, I'm a guy and am presently in LA, and will be in Atlanta in not too long.

I see you've been monitoring ebay. Have you seen this one? Otherwise I have no idea.

I don't know LA too well, but I would guess that the area of downtown where one can buy wedding dresses and other various costumery would be a good start. As I recall that area is very hispanic in flavor.

Oh wait; that's a kids one. D'oh! I'm sorry. I have nothing.

Response by poster: Effigy: Heh, thanks anyways.

Brodie: I'm guessing as much. The question I have is what stores in particular can I look for? And where could I find one reasonably cheap.

Best answer: Take a walk through the business district of any of the Hispanic areas and you'll find lots of small mom and pop stores selling what you're looking for. I was in Fontana a few days ago and must've seen a dozen shops with that kind of apparel in the window as I walked the 3-4 blocks of Sierra Ave between Orange and Arrow.

Get thee to El Monte or East LA. The Garment District would also be a good place to look.

Best answer: Also look for Western Wear or Tack in the Yellow Pages. Most western stores in SoCal now carry a good selection of charro stuff. It's 60 miles east of where you're at, but my wife said this place had a decent selection of authentic charro wear when she was there a few months ago.

Best answer: Try Plaza Fiesta in Atlanta.

Try costume shops and vintage clothing stores. There's a costume shop in the city of Orange called Gasoline Alley that sells and rents all sorts of costumes, outfits, and uniforms. Last Holloween, my roomate rented a mariachi outfit posing as 1 of the Three Amigos.
