The Devil went to Carolina,
Looking for a place to hide;
He found a pot,
And so he thought,
Now there will be
So I have this flower pot with a devil's face (see here).
What can I put in it to play off of the odd visage of this piece of art? Oddly shaped, named or colored plants are great.
Further info:
Zone 8a, half shade, can be moved inside for the mild Carolina winter, pot is about 10" round and 8" deep.

Best answer: Cockscomb flowers look like brains and come in very vivid colors. What could be more perfect?

I'd recommend a purple sweetpotato vine because it will grow like crazy and make him look like he has dreadlocks or medusa-like hair.

How about some of these carnivorous plants? I've always found Pitcher Plants eerily beautiful.

Best answer: 1. lobelia on the sides (will cascade down like sideburns)
2. fountain grass for the center (spikey hair)
3. sweet potato vine in the rear (for the mullett)

Devil's Ivy? Not the most unique or interesting-looking plant, but dead-simple to grow, very hard to kill, and appropriately named.

Best answer: What about a colored cactus? I saw a red and dark green that was almost black one somewhere...

Response by poster: Thanks for the input folks.
mattbucher: I like your thinking, but those things require crazy amounts of time to keep up. I'm too lazy. You get an honorable mention best answer.
A little more info on why best answers are what they are: On the opposite side of the tree is this planter with a Wandering Jew, I was hoping for something to play off of the good/evil dichotomy.

That's weird. I have two hanging baskets with sweet potato vines coming out of them and they seem to require very little besides water now and then (and they grow like crazy!). Thanks, though, and good luck!

Response by poster: D'oh. A little dizzy from the scrolling there. I meant Terminal Verbosity re: carnivorous plants with the honorable mention.
Yeah, sweet potato vines seem to be able to grow anywhere. I already have a preponderance of vines in my yard, however.

I think a Crown of Thorns would be .. well, ironic isn't exactly the right phrase, but I think you'll understand what I mean.
They can grow fairly big/tall but you could keep it trimmed into a bushy haircut.
