Inns Montreal this summer?

I'm looking into planning a trip to Montreal in late July and seek accommodation recommendations in the US$ 70-90 range. Not too difficult, right? But the room must have a private bathroom.
Am open to suggestions for neighborhoods, but should be convenient (i.e. not outside of town.) Vastly prefer inns to big hotels. (I can't talk thre SO into shared bath, which is how I scored great B&Bs for cheap last time I was there.) Yep, I already bookmarked the suggestions from this thread., but give me more!

Best answer: I stayed here a few weeks ago and thought it was very nice - friendly, comfortable, nice breakfast, free internet computer...
I think every room has an actual bath of its own so i'm guessing they've got bathrooms! Not sure if it fits your price range but the cheaper rooms are probably OK. They don't have fridges or minibars or any of that stuff but are happy to let you use their fridge and lend glasses etc.

How long will you be staying? There are tons of vacation rental apartments in Montreal. Most of them list weekly prices in their ads but probably also have slightly more expensive daily rates . I would recommend checking to get some ideas.
This previous ask.me thread might also have some ideas.

Whoops, my apologies for not reading the whole post. You already know about that thread.

Response by poster: DVD players, fridges, TVs, fancy bathtubs, internet, petty zoo, etc. are totally unnecessary.
Staying one week.
I find the reviews on Trip Advisor to be pretty uneven in value, particularly for smaller places that get fewer reviews. (I trust you guys a lot more!)

You wouldn't happen to be visiting McGill University would you? Because if you are, they help arrange special rates for some hotels, if you happen to be visiting them...

Get a STUDIO at this place.
I had a great time staying there. Private bathroom, cheap, and close to everything.
Be warned, you might find some bad reviews online, but it's really not as bad as everyone says it is.
Yeah, it's kind of right in the middle of the red light district, but that's not really a big deal in Montreal.

Or even if you don't. Just ask for the McGill rate; there's no supporting documentation required. But those are all big hotels, except Chateau Versailles, which is a small boutique hotel. It's definitely over $100/night though, but I can't remember the exact figure.
How easy it is to find a room will depend heavily on when you are visiting; during major festivals (especially the jazz festival), major hotels filled up months ago.

Response by poster: Sanitycheck: Wouldn't have thought of craigslist. Huh.
Jasper411: Not visiting McGill, but thanks.
TurkishGolds: Stayed right near there before -- red light district isn't a problem for me.
Handee: From the looks of their website, I already looove
Chateau Hotel L'Argoat. Tried to stay there a few years ago and they were booked solid, though, so I want as many alternatives as possible in that price range!

Best answer: We stayed at the Chateau de l'Argoat for a few days, and liked it so much we booked it for the following week as we were passing through Montreal again. They were able to book us a saturday night on four or five day's notice - so it might still be worth a look.

No, that's not how hotel rates like that work. You don't have to be in that class; you just have to ask for the rate. They don't care if you're actually in the class or not. Standard rates are made higher to account for that.
You can often get the same sort of thing by asking for a "business rate" or "conference rate" at many hotels, or just by saying that you want a lower rate than they're offering. If they're not completely booked they'd rather have someone in a room than have it stay empty.
