What's this movie I saw on the seat in front of me on a plane

I was sitting behind a woman and she was watching a movie that looked weird about also interesting? I searched the movie catalogue but nothing jumped out as being it.
The scene that got me was where the boy walks in on a couple in bed, he seems a little opt out but they are fairly non-fased. He theb pretty clearly gets drafted in a musical number when he's grabbed at by an Uncle Sam photo come to life, the a long of folks in uniform strip him down to his underwear. It's stylized, and the there's a cool montage of every part. Getting measured, but in a little frame. Then there's some pushups and folks in uniform dancing over the recruits.
I stopped paying attention after that, but did remember there's a headline in the paper, but the paper's photo looks alive and moving? Also I think one of the woman looks a bit like Evan Rachel Wood, but didn't think it's for sure her.
Any ideas?

Yes, definitely Across The Universe. This is the scene you saw.

FWIW - the director of Across the Universe, Julie Taymor, also created Lion King on Broadway. Note the similarities in the use of puppets and stick figures.
