Rhinos named Clara

My 5-year-old wants to know if there are any living rhinos named Clara.

She knows already about the 19th century one, but wants to be reassured after the recent death of a different rhino named Clara in England that there are any rhinos still living who might have that name.

There was a Clara the Rhino at Whipsnade Zoo, but she died recently, which is the reason for the question: my daughter was very upset by this is interested in finding out whether there are any others out there so that she will know this wasn’t the last one.

Best answer: I hope this will reassure her. Perhaps a German speaker can find more information.

Best answer: The Schwerin Zoo's page mentioning the Clara that Mr.Know-it-some found is here, under SÜDLICHES BREITMAULNASHORN section (navigation on left). Chrome's machine translation seems to do a serviceable job:

In the summer of 2016, the new rhino savannah was opened for our three rhinos. With over 8,000 m 2 of floor space, it is one of the largest rhino enclosures in Germany. The two female rhinos, Clara (*2006) & Karen (*2003) have been living together with us for a long time. In 2021, Dino (*1993) came to us from Erfurt and will take care of the offspring in the future.

I don't have an answer — and you already got what you needed, apparently — but I just want to say that this is why I love AskMe. This is one of my favorite questions ever!

I am just amused by the fact that the German word for rhinoceros - BREITMAULNASHORN - literally translates to "Broad mouth nose horn". So typically German - no fancy Latin or German roots, just good old simple Saxon syllables, direct and to the point.

Best answer: Your daughter can find some pics of the German Carla by scrolling down a little here.
