iPhone Message Shortcut for Send Button

Another iPhone question: A few iOS' ago, the send button pulled up shortcuts to recent iMessage chats. It no longer does this. Help me get it back.

This is a screenshot of what I'm talking about - I crossed out the personal details but see how it's all Instagram and FB Messenger chats? I want it to pull up specific iMessage chats, too. It used to do this and it stopped and it's inconvenient for me.

Best answer: FWIW, it is called the "Share" button or "Share Sheet". There are options for customizing the iOS Share Sheet, but I don't immediately see one to address your issue.

On mine (iPhone 12 mini, iOS 16.5), that's the Recent Contacts section, and it holds my six most recent chats via any app, definitely including Message / iMessage. Any chance it's just that your most recent chats have all been on Messenger and Instagram?

Response by poster: No, it never pulls my iMessage chats, not even when they are the most recent like what was happening in the case of this screenshot. I must've done something but I don't know what!

Best answer: Have you checked with Messages in one of your sharing favorites?
  1. Open the share sheet
  2. In the list of apps (the second row of icons) scroll all the way to the right
  3. Tap the "More ..." button
  4. See if Messages is included in the Favorites section
  5. If it's not, tap "Edit" and add Messages to favorites
  6. Optionally, remove other items from Favorites
I don't know if this will fix the issue, and can't test it, but absent another solution I think it's worth trying. Good luck.

Response by poster: Just tried it but it didn't work, not even after a reboot :(

Best answer: Wait! I was finally able to fix it! There was some boxes in the "Siri & Search" section of Message settings that were unchecked that I checked, and also the "Shared With You" box in the Message settings that I checked. One of those fixed it! Appreciate all of your brainstorming on this, it led me in the right direction.

Best answer: Further testing suggests it was the "Learn from the App" setting that controls whether an app is on your share sheet.
