Yet another question about underwear

I love these women's boy short underwear from Ridge Merino - except that I am disappointed in their longevity. Any recommendations for replacements? Very picky details follow.

What I like about these - the merino content makes them so nice in terms of wicking, odor management, basically all the good stuff about merino. The fit is good on my particular body - I like the overall height (not too low, not too high). I have strong legs and glutes, as well as a high waist / hip ratio, and these don't ride up on my thighs, they have adequate fabric to cover my butt and they don't gape at the back waist. They are a nice length, and while they aren't invisible under things like leggings, I don't mind the lines of them.

What I don't like about these - I bought three pair in Feb. 2020 and they are literally threadbare in places. I just mended the waistband on one pair where the fabric wore away over the elastic. I don't mind spending $30 a pair for underwear if they will last longer! I do put them in the washing machine, but they have never been in the dryer.

Any suggestions for replacements that may last longer?

Best answer: These Mineral Undies, boxer style from Huha I think you absolutely must try based on what you describe.

They are my absolute favourite. I have been replacing all of my underwear with them. I've had the first set for maybe two years and they're no different from the brand new ones. They're really soft and fit nicely. The odour and moisture is good. The description says they have wide legs to avoid ride-ups and a very stretchy top.

It makes me genuinely sad now when I don't do laundry and have to wear my old ones.

I can't really speak to your concerns about fit, but, to the longevity end of things, I've found Duckworth snd Icebreaker merino boxers to be significantly longer-lasting than ones from Ridge.

Response by poster: lookoutbelow - thank you so much for the Huha recommendation! I ordered a pair of the undies to try and also decided to try a bralette (since that is another undergarment I've not found a satisfactory solution for).

I really loved the inclusiveness of the models on Huha; I am always happier buying from a site that uses models in a wide ranges of shapes, ages and colors. Then, when I checked out, I got to chose a charity to donate 1% of my order total to, which was an additional pleasant surprise.

From reading the reviews, it sounds like their undies are comfy in a wide range of temps, which, while I didn't remember to mention it, is important to me as well, living in an area that goes through all four seasons with vigor.

Oh no, I have the same ones from Ridge Merino and have been wondering how long they’ll last. I haven’t found a similar product in both fit and material anywhere. I hope someone comes in with a specific wool recommendation, but won’t get my hopes up.
Picky wool questions: were they washed in a delicates bag? No hot water? No added soap fragrance? Dried out between wear and washing? Kept out of direct sun?

Response by poster: Hey delezzo- they were only washed in cold, but never in a delicates bag. Our laundry soap does have fragrance and I’ve certainly hung them on the clothesline, which means they have spent plenty of time in direct sun.

Perhaps you will get better life out of yours with such careful handling - I’ve just treated mine the same way all my clothes get treated (except not put them in the dryer).

Oh, and for what it's worth - I put them in the dryer, though I'm sure they'd wear less over time if not. But as there's no discernable difference in the condition since I got them, the convenience is worth it to me.

Response by poster: Follow up - I love the Huha boxer. Great fit, super comfy. Based on lookoutbelow’s experience of them wearing well, I took the plunge and have ordered enough to last me between laundry days.

Response by poster: Since this post is still open - I’ve been wearing the Huha boxers for almost a year! Washed in the washer with the rest of the laundry but I line or rack dry them - no dryer. I’m very pleased with their longevity.
