What are some good resources for video marketing best practices?

I'm looking for some good research-based sites that show what works and doesn't work for organizations/companies that are producing short videos to reach their audiences.

The practices I've stumbled across in my recent searches include things like: you have 3 seconds to engage your audience, branding your videos can be a turn off because people will just think it's an ad, people prefer videos that don't feel over produced (too slick). I'd like to back up some of these claims with actual research instead of just an expert stating them.

This really depends on your audience and goals. Video ads playing on a browser will have different criteria of success than a short form social media video like a TikTok, Insta Reel or FB Story, amd those are different from a short video on YouTube.

Keep in mind also that what works for larger companies doesn't always work for smaller companies, and what your target market wants to see from you will vary by industry and product niche.

And regardless of external research, actively testing different types of content for engagement is the best way to determine what's best for your company.

If you can provide more specifics, perhaps we can help you find some resources that apply to your situation.

But truly, the best solution is usually to hire a digital marketing person or agency with a proven track record in your industry or something analogous.

Response by poster: One clarification might be any specific sites that do this research that do not require subscriptions, like AdAge requires.

Agree with ananci that this is a whole industry and there aren't really any generalizations, it entirely depends the specifics of your situation.

To add to ananci's questions--is this paid or organic media? What platforms are you look at? What kind of content are you hoping to produce and what is its purpose (sales, awareness, B2B, B2C, etc etc)?

Response by poster: Organic media on YouTube, FB, Twitter. Content about vaccines and how/where to get them.
