Last month I paid Primus $88.53(CDN) for my landline/unlimited internet connection. Is there a company out there that will charge less per month? I'm in Ontario, Canada.

TekSavvy should be well under that for a mid-range internet package and VOIP phone service.

Primus upped their rates last month by $5 (for Internet service, I don't know about combined phone and Internet service). There was a notice saying check the website to see if there was a plan that was better for you. So I did. It turns out even though I was getting 15 Mbps speed, I was paying the rate for something much faster (50 to 75 Mbps), so I had a little chat with Primus. It took a bit of doing, but I got my bill knocked down with no contract commitment (I'm a very, very, very long-time customer).

So my advice would be have a good look at what they're offering, what you're paying and see if you can cut a better deal for yourself. Also, if it helps, I've found their tech support response has been much, much quicker recently than it has in the past couple of years.

I'm on Teksavvy and my internet is $67.74 after tax. No landline though so I don't think your bill is that high (or maybe we're both paying too much).

I use Carry Telecom for both internet and VOIP phone service and would recommend them highly. They have a few low-cost unlimited plans for both cable and FTTN connections, and the best part is the VOIP phone service is only $4.99/mo on top of the internet service.
Before taxes, I'm currently paying $39 for 50 Mbps FTTN internet and the $4.99 for the Canada-wide phone plan.

Seconding Teksavvy on pricing. If you're unlucky, though, your landline will be part of a block of numbers that a Bell reseller can't transfer to VOIP. Mine's like that, unfortunately.

Response by poster: I just called Primus to find out what my internet speed was. Turns out I was getting 1 Mbps (!!!!!) for what I was paying. I got them to upgrade me to 7 Mbps and lower my rate a little. The new monthly rate is $75.65 after tax, and there's no contract, so that'll help a little for the time being while I keep looking into my other options.
