I'm looking for songs about taking care of yourself.

The song Have You Been Good to Yourself by Johnnie Frierson popped up on my Discover Weekly playlist this week. The lyrics about eating the right kind of food and getting enough sleep brought to mind Button Up Your Overcoat. What are some other songs with similar sentiments?

Searching for songs about self care is mostly bringing up lists of songs that are about self-esteem, self-love, empowerment, etc., which is not really what I'm after. I'm looking for more of the "get some exercise" and "wear your flannel underwear" type of self care. Thanks!

Well, it's dark and weird, of course, but Coil's Broccoli kind of is like this. If you don't have time to listen to a nine and a quarter minutes of this stuff, you can just read the lyrics.

The latter half of the Blackalicious track "Nowhere Fast" -

I'm bout to change the way I'm livin homey
I'm eatin vegan, no ham or baloney
I'm startin off my day with yoga stretches
I'm bout to master self to study lessons
I'm swearin off the weed and alcohol
I won't be affected by doubts at all
The sky's the limit, watch I'm bout to ball
I'm spendin every single dollar wisely
I'm writin songs that's bumpin like the Eisleys
I'll have the answers you can all confide in me
Nothin the day could bring that will surprise me
I'm buildin to the fullest every minute
I'm through talkin the talk, I'm bout to live it
Ain't even started yet, I'm at the finish line

Both of these hit those notes for me, though they're slightly oblique to your request. Not specifically prescriptive, but provide a lot of wisdom on how to care for yourself IMO:

First in Flight by Blackalicious is about meditation (among other things).

On a lighter note, Here Comes a Thought from the children's cartoon Steven Universe is also about meditation.

Jason Isbell also wrote "Outfit" while with the Drive-By Truckers. In his (excellent) solo show (or with his band the 400 Unit), he quips "Here's a cover of a song I wrote" before playing it. It's basically the voice of his father advising younger Jason in the art of proper social behavior, including honoring his family, not speaking in a low fashion, and in general doing better in life than his father managed.

Brand New Start by Paul Weller

I'm gonna clear out my head
I'm gonna get myself straight
I know it's never too late
To make a brand new start

I'm gonna clear up my earth
And build a heaven on the ground
Not something distant on a cloud
But something real to me
