Another old-movie identification question

This one was released in 1966 or so at the latest, as that was when I saw it.

Plot: At the beginning, some guys land their boat on an island, or place, where they buried or hid treasure some years ago. "Buried treasure" suggests pirates or ex-pirates, but Google has failed me in that search direction.

I think the setting was 19th-century, and new-world, maybe Spanish-type colony.

They're thwarted in finding their old stuff because things have changed a lot, but finally they find out it was buried under the floor of a church, but had long since been dug up and used for.. as the priest is forced to explain in the climax, whatever, helping the poor and such, but it's gone.

I think at the end the ex-pirates get pretty much all killed, run out of the new town that's grown up since they were last there. I could swear it closes with their boat drifting away, draped with their dead bodies.

I know there are lists of every movie released in a year but... damn, they release a lot of movies in a year, and back then there were even more.

Best answer: Is it The Black Pirates?

Response by poster: That could be it, from that synopsis. (You deserve some credit even if it's the wrong one) If that's it, I see that there was also a ton of romantic-interest stuff that made no imprint in my childish memory. Now to see if I can find it and check...

Response by poster: Yes, without any of the few scenes I remember. But oh heck, that looks to be it, just from the plotline alone.
