I am trying to track down a short story I read several years ago in, I think, either Harpers or the Atlantic. A group of teenage boys accidentally kills someone and it haunts them for life.
Other details - maybe the guy they kill is one of the boys' girlfriend's other boyfriend? And they bury the body and never get caught but it haunts them their whole lives until they're old men.
Ring any bells?

Response by poster: Nope. It was new fiction definitely within the last 10 years. I feel like it was a male writer as well.

Doesn't quite match up, but I wonder if it's this Franzen short story.

Older than 10 years but possibly "Phineas" by John Knowles? It was the basis for the novel A Separate Peace.
