name this cat!

I went to Tahoe this weekend to ski, and it was raining so I adopted a cat instead... she needs a name!

She is a 1 year old calico/tabby looking thing. Her tail was broken earlier in her life so it now has a cute kink at the end of her tail, which quivers while she explores. She is pretty confident and curious, and is a purring machine with some small chirps here and there. So far, she likes looking out of windows and her favorite toy is her collar with a small bell, which she likes to fetch. I prefer non-human names, preferably a goofier name since she seems to have a bit of doofus in her. I was considering Hera (Harry/Hairy) but it feels too serious, and is a human name.

Her shelter name was Lucy (and by the way, I highly, HIGHLY recommend Truckee Humane Society. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful, and it is seriously the nicest shelter facility I have seen. If I'm reincarnated as a rescued cat/dog, I'd want to be placed there. The cat room had soft music playing and a TV showing stimulating videos of fish and pikas.)

The first thing I thought when I looked at her was Chicory.

I don't even know what Chicory is (like, a plant yeah? you can eat it?, but idk) but that's what I thought when I saw her.

Lucy is waaaaay too common as a cat name. She looks to me like a Wendy.

I think Lucy suits her, but I also dig non-human names for pets.

Her coloring makes her look like some sort of delicious dessert with both chocolate and caramel, so in that vein I'd suggest Turtle, Rolo, Snickers, Star Crunch, etc.

I also vote for Tinkerbell, mainly because I have a cat named Tinkerbell who is a purr machine too.

P.S. JEEZ she's cute

Best answer: My immediate thought was Tahoe. I do like Tinkerbell, though. (Or Stinkerbell, if you want to play up the doofus angle.)

Pickles, Penny, Buttons, or Shirley. I'm also partial to Tinker - that's what we named my childhood cat, and she was the best!

Here's a glossary of skiing slang to peruse for options. Some that jumped out at me:
Mogul
Fakie
Bunny (the definition there is a bit sexist but I've heard the term generically for "novice skier")
Noodle
Snotsicle

Judging from the fact that you got a cat because it was raining when you went to Tahoe to ski, you should name her Non Sequitur.

Or another geographically- relevant name?

Tinker has a nice Tahoe connection since Tinker's Knob is nearby.

I'm so glad you got her from HSTT! I volunteer there and my cat's from there too.

Best answer: She looks like she's going to be an extremely elegant cat as she ages. Therefore a suitably elegant name is in order.

Something like Lady Purringtons von Tahoe.

Best answer: You have a beautiful torbie!

I have a Lucy, because I didn't figure out what her name should have been until Lucy was set (I might try again), so I suggest calling her Tabitha-Ruth.

I tend to name animals things that will amuse only me, usually based on some inside joke. Therefore, I would name this cat Snowball precisely because she is not a fluffy white Persian owned by an unimaginative person. (And, because, you know, you went for snow and skiing and came back with a cat and no snow or skiing.)

Polly Pink-Ears/Pink-Nose

Bit of a doofus... Auntie Sillyfur? Jellylorum.

Tahoe, Truckee...a 't' name? Tiddles? Tiddles had very good manners; I saw her on the news as a kid and wrote to her and she promptly wrote back, enclosing a photograph. Lady Tiddleston of Truckee for the long form.

Tabitha is overused as a cat name but you could call her Tab or Tabs and lie to people and tell them she went to Cambridge.

Response by poster: There are so many amazing suggestions, thank you all!! I wish I had the mental capacity to remember a 50 word-long name.

And if I liked human pet names, Donna (for Donna party) would be so great. Or Lucy for that matter.

I LOVE Toast and von Tahoe. Lady Toastington von Tahoe of Kilimanjaro? Toasty for short perhaps.

And I can't not think of Angela's cat that Dwight mercy-killed for the name Sprinkles

Best answer: If you'd like French royalty, Dame Tiramisu de Tahoe, or Dame Toast de Tahoe (which is about as un-French as you can get but is quirky fun that way). And "dame" is pronounced as it is in "madame", i.e. ah rather than ay.

References: Franco-American who greets her own adoptive mutt cats with Madame et Monsieur Chats de la Malmaison (I happen to live where Josephine bought a castle, ehehehe).

also translating toast to French isn't much fun, "pain grillé" is deffo not a cat name whereas Toast oh so is

Best answer: She looks like a Princess to me. Also, the tail kink is likely a genetic trait!

Response by poster: Ooh I like the French idea. Maybe I'll see whether she responds better to Toasty or Brioche tonight.

And the king being genetic is fascinating!

Thanks guys!

Simply...Tahoe. I have to agree, it's a wonderful name for this beautiful cat.

Plus, it perfectly satisfies the backyard calling of cat with high-low two syllable name- KEY.

TAH- ho...here kitty kitty...TAH HOE!!!! Come here...
