Working hard is its own reward.. oh, wait. That's virtue.

I am in need of some working hard/work motivation phrases. Quotes, platitudes you learned in kindergarten, something your dad used to say, anything goes. Bonus imaginary metapoints for anything that includes reasons or motivations to enjoy work (even if it's not very enjoyable).
"Nothing Will Make You Feel Better Except Doing The Work."

To be of use
By Marge Piercy
The people I love the best
jump into work head first
without dallying in the shallows
and swim off with sure strokes almost out of sight.
They seem to become natives of that element,
the black sleek heads of seals
bouncing like half-submerged balls.
I love people who harness themselves, an ox to a heavy cart,
who pull like water buffalo, with massive patience,
who strain in the mud and the muck to move things forward,
who do what has to be done, again and again.
I want to be with people who submerge
in the task, who go into the fields to harvest
and work in a row and pass the bags along,
who are not parlor generals and field deserters
but move in a common rhythm
when the food must come in or the fire be put out.
The work of the world is common as mud.
Botched, it smears the hands, crumbles to dust.
But the thing worth doing well done
has a shape that satisfies, clean and evident.
Greek amphoras for wine or oil,
Hopi vases that held corn, are put in museums
but you know they were made to be used.
The pitcher cries for water to carry
and a person for work that is real.

Luck is the residue of design. (You can find an attribution. I've heard it attributed to Branch Ricky, but I'm not sure that's solid.)

Don't undertake vast projects with a half-vast plan.
If it was all fun, they wouldn't call it "work".

Best answer: It doesn't fit your bonus point criteria, but I find "You don't have to like it, you just have to do it" very useful.
I also like "Procrastination is an option your mind provides, not an order you have to follow."

I learned to "Do it once, do it right" (or "Just fucking go and do it properly the first time") years ago and that has always motivated me (as a fairly lazy procrastinator who does not believe in creating work for herself) to be thorough and conscientious - I know it is far more of a pain to have to keep going back and redoing something that I've done sloppily.
So maybe not quite enjoying work, but I do view it as avoiding future work. A favour for busier tireder me later in the day when I want to leave work on time.

"It always goes faster the second time," is my motto evolved after irretrievable data loss, garbled instructions, clients changing their minds, an essential part is discovered to be no longer available, etc.
Remembering this is some small comfort as you start completely over on a project that took a week and was lost when the server died the day before deadline.

I don't know if it's motivation, exactly, but I had this wonderful coworker years ago who, when things got hairy, would sigh gently and say, "oh well, we're not here for love." 25 years on, I still say this to myself when things are hectic and it makes me chuckle and feel better.

From my dad:
"I’m gonna get it done if it harelips every cow in Texas." (said he picked this up from an Army buddy)
"Life is simpler when you plow around the stump."
I always found this one motivating, even though one might not regard it as such on the face of it: “Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway.”

I say this to my students when they complain about how hard their homework is. Occasionally, it works to remind them that you have to work to stay ahead of the crowd.
