Can anyone identify the glorious sweater in this photo? I would like to buy it at the sweaterery from which it came

The stripey one? I bought one at Old Navy about 10 years ago.
Loved it to death. Love the boat neck.
Is this photo recent?

Response by poster: Yeah, the stripey one. I don't really know anything about the photo-- came up in a non-sweatery google image search-- but context clues lead me to believe it is fairly recent.

Pretty sure I had a boyfriend who had that sweater like 10 years ago. :-/

That's actor Denis O'Hare wearing the sweater; he's got a twitter, maybe you could just ask him?

Best answer: I believe it is the Gap Holiday Stripe Sweater, from Winter 2014: Pinterest

There was something similar at ON, but I don't think the colors are quite the same.

Not that this helps determine where it did come from.

Whoops, meant to add this corroborating link.

Response by poster: Nice catch on the Gap Holiday Stripe; that's definitely it! Is there some secret place online to buy slightly out-of-date clothes? I can't find this item anywhere on eBay. :(

I highly recommend setting up eBay alerts for "gap striped sweater XL", "gap holiday stripe sweater XL" and "gap rainbow sweater XL" (or whatever your size is). I also get obsessed with discontinued articles of clothing, and while eBay requires months/years of patience, it is SO satisfying when it pays off.

You can also try Poshmark for secondhand brand-name clothes; it seems like mostly women's stuff though.

Oh! Etsy is also a good place to get secondhand brand-name clothes. Etsy requires vintage stuff to be 20+ years old, but that's hard to gauge with clothing. :)

The downside of Etsy is the lack of alert system, so you have to be searching regularly. I have better luck with eBay.

There's a women's version on eBay, as well as a men's scarf, and the men's sweater in blue.

For a consignment-type store you can check Grailed Basics, although I did not see it available.

Funnily enough, I actually know those people. Not closely enough to drop them a text, but if you're really in a bind, memail me and I can tell you how to contact them. Small world!

Gap Holiday stripe sweaters are a Thing. If you set up those eBay alerts, it (or one very much like it) will eventually come up.
