Grocery delivery or other services in Richmond, CA?

Can you recommend to me a way to buy, from my living room in Portland, OR, a gift certificate for grocery delivery or other useful services for a friend with mobility issues in Richmond, CA?

A friend is returning from winter break straight into the last semester of a really intense graduate program, with an empty kitchen. They don't have a car and they have limited ability to walk. I'd love to be able to buy them groceries, but they're in California and I'm in Portland. Here, we have Instacart and Prime Now, neither of which deliver to their ZIP code. It looks like Safeway would deliver there, but I can't figure out how I can buy a gift certificate to send to them for grocery delivery. Help?

Or, if grocery delivery won't work, do you have other recommendations for ideas of things I could send?

You can buy Safeway gift cards here. According to the Safeway delivery FAQs, Safeway gift cards can be used to pay for delivery.

Also, Amazon Fresh appears to deliver to Richmond, CA (but enter your friend's zip code just to be sure), so an Amazon gift card should also do the trick, although your friend will have to have Amazon Prime to use Amazon Fresh.

They might be interested in a gift card for Munchery, a meal delivery service. They do a good number of ready-to-heat meals daily along with some ingredient kits that you cook yourself.

At least in SF, and I think in Richmond, you need Amazon Prime Fresh to use Amazon Fresh, which costs $200 more than ordinary Prime. I wouldn't go that route unless you know they already have it.

Order a taskrabbit with a list of staples and pay for it?
