android music player that won't play podcasts

Seeking a recommendation for an android music player that will only look in certain folders. My current "Music Player" app looks all over my phone, and as a result it shows me a confusing mix of albums and podcasts. Doggcatcher sees only my podcasts; I want a music player that sees only my music folders.

PlayerPro does this (you can find it in the settings). It's also a nice music player in general.

I use MediaMonkey and I've never had the problem you describe. However, I use MediaMonkey on my PC, too, and sync from there, so maybe that's why I don't have that problem. Anyway, MediaMonkey for windows is great, too, so it's well worth the switch, I think.

Also, both PlayerPro and Amazon Music seem to ignore podcasts (at least from Podcast Addict) by default even without making a settings change. Google Music does not.

Best answer: I use Rocket Music Player, and it allows you to choose which folders to scan for media in the settings.

Seconding Rocket Music Player, works great for me in this way.

It's worth looking at your podcast player for help with this quest. I use Beyondpod, and somewhere deep inside there's a checkbox which says "hide podcasts from other music players".

I use Folder Player - it works great if that's how you arrange your music and then it doesn't matter if folders are hidden or not.

Like the other podcast players mentioned PocketCasts can also hide your media.

If your podcast player doesn't hide the folders you want you can get the same effect by using a file manager (ES is good) to add a blank .nomedia file to the folders containing files you don't want scanned. From the Android documentation:
Hiding your files from the Media Scanner

Include an empty file named .nomedia in your external files directory (note the dot prefix in the filename). This prevents media scanner from reading your media files and providing them to other apps through the MediaStore content provider.

Podcast Addict puts a .nomedia file in the root of it's podcast storage. I use Play Music and Amazon MP3 and neither of them try to play files from that folder.
