Can anyone suggest a great ear-bud headset for an android phone that has a high quality mic for phone conversations?
The in-ear headphone reviews at The Wirecutter may help you, although they do not focus on mic quality. Based on very limited experience, I haven't found much difference in mic quality in inexpensive earbuds. The only mic I've had complaints about was on the stock set that came with a phone.

Upon a recommendation in response to an Ask I posted a while back, I picked up an LG Tone Pro that I ended up liking a lot more than I thought I would. They're great, actually. I expected the around-the-neck design of the body to annoy me to no end, but it's fine for 4-6 hours at a stretch. Surprisingly, the outgoing audio is very good despite the lack of an identifiable microphone. It's not quite as good at filtering general background noise, but it isn't nearly as susceptible to wind noise and the voice quality is good enough to be easily heard over the background noise that is picked up.
That said, the Tone series is focused more on media consumption, so there is probably a better option. The other headsets I looked at were significantly more expensive. (Both the Plantronics and the Tone Pro were sub-$100 street price; the closest equivalent to the Plantronics I found when I was looking was over twice that)
