Help me identify this "G," g.

Identify this font from one sketched character; challenge of the year!

I am trying to remember what in the sam hell this letter G is from. This is a sketch; the actual font may be a bit more compressed or angular. The key is that the G is in two parts and the top of the second part is slightly wider than the bottom. This is a tough one.

Response by poster: P.S. The actual face is not nearly as cartoonish as this one.

Try Indentifont.

Response by poster: Identifont isn't nearly sophisticated enough to identify a face using only one letter.

My best guess is Roman Tyres Bold.

geeky: The 'g' is not the same 'g' as that one.

Identifont got me P22 Vienna Black which is also wrong.

It looks like a font from that old school "Printshop" program...ah, I used to love making those sweet fold up birthday cards on my 486...

I know it's not the same.. it was a best guess :)

Reminds me of Lithos Black

Here's a better sample of Lithos Black

Response by poster: All my sketches look like Lithos. :(

Maybe this is better:

You're sketching the font? And want us to guess? And then you totally change the sketch?

Maybe tell us where you saw it...

Pretty much; that's why this really sucks and why it's really really hard. I saw it on a file lost long ago and now records of it are retained only in my head. I redid the sketch because the first one was, on further reflection, terrible.

Sorry.

Best answer: Is it the Thrasher font?

Response by poster: Um now I just need the real name.

There's no "G" in "THRASHER" . . .

Best answer: Banco

The sketch wasn't that bad, I guess.

Response by poster: It's pretty depressing to see my brain betray me like that. I was convinced that the top of the letter was vertically oriented. Thanks, guys.

So it is used in that Thrasher poster, but the question remains, where's the whole font and what's it called?

Sorry, waited to long, missed the Banco answer
posted by beagle at 1:07 PM on December 9, 2005

Response by poster: Aiko answered it; it's called Banco.

Your first sketch of a G is a better design than the Banco G, IMHO.

Response by poster: Also a big shout-out to the good folks at typophile.com, who answered it the same time as aiko once mike_bling's example was posted.

Response by poster: So I guess my follow-up question is how on Earth did Mike pull up that Thrasher example given the information provided? That's pretty clutch.

That dosn't look anything like the sketch. It dosn't have a disconnected bar, and the bar dosn't decend below the bottom of the curve. Oh well.

Something really strange just happened here. I demand to know how Mike found it.

I agree with beagle; I want to see the font based on Optimus Chyme's sketch interpretation of Banco.

Your first G reminded me of Pixar for some reason.
posted by devilsbrigade at 4:14 PM on December 9, 2005

It actaully reminded me of the Incredibles.

Response by poster: I think if you guys saw my typography you would be pretty disappointed; whatever charm that first G has is purely coincidental. :)
