Help me find food in Atlanta please!

I recently moved to Atlanta from Texas late last year. So far things have been fine, but the food situation here is very dire. Who knew the food would be so different! Can you help me find these food items?

Breakfast tacos-I would murder someone for some breakfast tacos. The closest I can find is a place that has a "breakfast burrito" but nothing like the build-your-own kind back in Texas. I made a trip to Athens to eat at the Fuzzy's there just to get my fix. I would even settle for Taco Cabana at this point. (Also, my usual solution to this problem in Texas is just to find where the Mexican neighborhoods were and go to a restaurant there. I've heard there's not really a place like that in Atlanta.)

Donuts-Do NOT tell me Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme. Where's all the donut shops with eclairs, chocolate twists, sausage rolls, cinnamon rolls, etc? The only thing close I've been able to find are gourmet donut shops. Maybe Texans just like their donuts more but going from a donut shop every few blocks to none has been heartbreaking.

Sno Cones- I've heard they exist here but since these don't usually have an internet presence, its hard to research online.

I live up by Perimeter Mall and would be willing to travel for these tastes of home (I'm willing to go to Birmingham just to get some Whataburger).

Atlanta has an amazing food scene. One of the best in the country.

Donuts: Sublime Doughnuts. Best doughnuts in the entire universe. Or Revolution Doughnuts although they run out fast.

Tacos: Taqueria Del Sol. 3 locations in the ATL. Amazing tacos.

For breakfast tacos, maybe Tacos Linda Vista?

I guess sublime and revolution count as gourmet doughnut shops. Maybe Ray's Donuts out in Marietta for a traditional selection.

Ok, part of this is just where you live, sorry. You are going to have to drive some.

Breakfast Tacos. Buford Hwy, all up and down. Tons of different ethnic populations, lots of crazy cheap and delicious food. Try El Taco Veloz for starters. (There are also lots of Hispanic enclaves throughout the burbs, just yelp it. You'll find awesome food.)

Donuts! Revolution Donut in Decatur, Sublime donuts across from Ga Tech.

There is a sno-cone place in Dectatur, New Orleans Snoball Cafe. I think some Hawaiian places had shave ice stuff too.

Taco Veloz for breakfast ... confirm w your location. Autentico.
Sorry about your Krispy Kreme aversion. Hot KKs are the best ever -- it is known.

I'd suggest Taco Veloz, then. There may be other pop-up places in the Buford Highway corridor as well, but that should get you started. You can certainly scratch any itch you have for Pho around there, anyhow.

I like the breakfast burritos at Delias. Taco Veloz on Buford is also supposed to be good.

Important note: The Sno-ball Cafe in Decatur has (excellent) snowballs, not snowcones. If you are expecting a snowcone, you may be disappointed.

So part of this is where you live, and part is where you live..now. I mean, your neck of the woods may not have your needs covered, and Atlanta has different foodstuffs from what you're looking for. We have no shortage of Mexican places (or good food in general), but I would guess it just can't be comparable to Texas, considering geography. Buford Hwy has you covered but there are tons of other places and you should definitely explore Yelp and Urban Spoon. I don't know jack about snowcones because I think everywhere here has snowballs (and I'm still not clear on the benefits of each). For doughnuts, we really are surprisingly lacking in options. I think you'd like Blanchard's (Old Dixie Hwy), near the airport. Also dude, I'll totally go food-sploring with you! I don't branch out nearly enough and having three goal foods would be fun! Memail me!

Everyone already said Buford Highway, so, get thee hence. Otherwise I am also ensaddened to see the food situation described as "dire" and would also be happy to food ambassador you around to other places. We have good food! I love eating out in this town (err maybe too much?).

It's none of the things you asked for, but if you find yourself downtown, go to The Food Shoppe around the corner from the Westin. Completely unassuming from the exterior, or even the interior, but fantastic Creole dishes. Just fantastic.

I want to affirm your belief that the donut situation here is terrible. There are like three good spots that sell $3 donuts but no really good donut shop for the people.

I haven't lived in Atlanta for several years now but I would be very surprised if any of the doughnut shops there had the sausage kolaches that you are looking for. Those are a peculiar Texasy thingie. Breakfast tacos are something I don't ever recall seeing in Atlanta but Buford highway is definitely your best bet there.

It's a bit of a trek from you, but I recommend La Calavera Bakery in east Decatur for your breakfast pastry needs. I don't know that they have the sausage rolls you're asking about, but you could certainly ask them while stocking up on awesome Mexican and American breads and pastries.

Response by poster: Thanks for all these suggestions! I had been told Buford Highway by others but hadn't had a chance to check it out.

I also agree that some of my food woes are due to my location. But I can walk to work from here and I don't want to deal with the terrible traffic, so I'm kind of stuck.

I don't know what the difference is between sno cones and sno balls. Is a sno-ball shaved ice with flavor syrup, because that's what I'm looking for (also does Atlanta have "tiger's blood" flavoring because that is the best).

I would love to go food exploring with you people!

Tiger's Blood snoballs can be found here, per their menu!

They aren't exactly sno cones, but I can vouch for the deliciousness of the Hawaiian shave ice you can get at Waikikie. (Website here.)
