Camping in Queensland

We're looking at going camping for the Easter long weekend and taking our telescope with us. We have a couple of requirements.
We're looking for a camping site that is:
- away from towns or cities so we can get away from light pollution
- in a big, open area so we can star gaze
- have a toilet (even if it is a long drop)
- accessible by 2wd car
- preferably booked in advance so we know there will be space for us
- within 3 hours of Toowoomba
Queensland MeFites do you have any suggestions?

We had a great time at Girraween National Park in Southern Queensland several years back. Wonderful cabins, well away from any form of light pollution. We stayed at the Lodges. I'm pretty sure it'll be within 3 hours.

Best answer: Girraween campground is great. Big camp sites and hot showers. Maybe be a bit busy at Easter. But there are plenty of other NPs nearby - Bald Rock and Boonoo Boonoo.
Alternatively, try Crows Nest National Park (also with hot showers if you prime the wood-chip heater) or the beautiful Bunya Mountains.

Best answer: Nthing Girraween and/or Bunya Mountains. Great spots and well away from light sources.

Response by poster: Thanks for your answers. Booked the last site at one of the Bunya Mountains camping areas. Girraween, Queen Mary Falls and Crows Nest were already full.

Stayed here a few years ago, must have been about 15. I remember lying on the ground in the caravan park looking up at the Milky Way with my kids. So clear and stunning. Just wonderful. Also caravan park is out of town because it's situated near the falls, an easy and beautiful walk. And facilities have water.
