How did I pay more than everyone I know for tickets to see The Replacements in SF?

I bought my tickets through LiveNation from the venue website. All told I spent a little over $700 for 4 tickets. My friends paid $59.00 each for seats through Ticketmaster and it seems that everything on Stubhub is quite a bit less than I paid. How did this happen? Did I do something wrong or is it really possible that LiveNation is able to charge more than TicketMaster?

Did you buy "Resale Tickets"? Or did you get the tickets through the original sale?

If the former, then the price was probably set by the seller (who is likely a 3rd party), and so it makes sense that you could have paid significantly more than face value.

Did you accidentally buy resale tickets? The Prices link on that page says that standard admission was $63.

Response by poster: No, I bought within the first few minutes of them going on sale.

Dumb question, but did you buy much better seats than them?

Not only are seats close to the stage usually priced higher, nowadays there are all kinds of "Platinum packages" that might get you upgraded parking or even the chance to go backstage.

Best answer: Did you get an email receipt? What does it say that you paid for?

Just because you purchased within minutes doesn't necessarily mean that they weren't resale tickets -- folks (or, if you are more conspiratorially minded, businesses affiliated with LiveNation) who had access to pre-sales might have put their tickets up, and you may have been too slow for a show that sold out quickly.

Response by poster: Yup, you are right I got resale tickets.
I'll mark this as answered and continue to feel like a dork. A dork who owes my friends some cash or a dinner or something. Thanks.

Even the Best Available tickets on LiveNation are only $63 including fees, and it doesn't appear that they're offering a VIP package for you to have inadvertently purchased, which would have been my first guess (because I've done it before). So either you accidentally bought resale tickets, or something went horribly wrong. Since the prices are clearly displayed on LiveNation.com, it should be easy to contact them and ask about the discrepancy in what you paid and the listed price.
