Soundtrack for a spunky 1 year old.

My baby girl's birthday is this week and I am hunting the perfect song to back a slideshow of photos of her first year. I do not want anything overtly sappy. My kiddo is known for being adventurous and fun so I want to find her a song that is suiting to her personality. Help please! :)

Many of Joe McDermott's songs celebrate the adventures of early childhood. Our favorites were "I am Baby" and "Little White Shoes."

"Happy" by Pharell is of course the ubiquitous song this year.

Personally? I'd go with some Grimes

I like to sing Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" to my daughter. She is also full of joie de vivre and spunk.

I used Laurie Berkner's "Five Days Old" for a similar project. She and Trout Fishing in America have a lot of fun upbeat kids' songs that might work.

Yellow Submarine or You know My Name, Look up the Number. The kids go crazy for either.

That MGMT song, 'Kids'

You were a child,
crawlin' on your knees toward it.
Makin' mama so proud,
but your voice was too loud.

We like to watch you laughing.
You pick the insects off plants.
No time to think of consequences.

And I just like the upbeat tune. :)

Jack Johnson put out a great soundtrack for a Curious George movie several years back. Lots of great songs on this album for adventurous little kids!

One of the best is a really nice White Stripes cover, We're Going To Be Friends. Jungle Gym is a good one too, and so is Upside Down.

Ca Plane Pour Moi, by Plastic Bertrand? I have no idea what the lyrics mean, but it always conveys a certain sense of overflowing energy to me, as I imagine a rambunctious kid can.

From the same era, Bow Wow Wow's "Go Wild in the Country" has a similar sense of boundless youthful energy, and "adventurous" lyrics (in English).

Father and Daughter, Paul Simon. The lyrics (link) are charming, a hope for an idealized childhood: "I'm going to stand guard / like a postcard / of a Golden Retriever"

I Feel It All, another one by Feist, more age-appropriate and a total joy/life anthem
