INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY

CAPSLOCKFILTER: OK - I have to ask: what's up with the International Caps Lock Day post over on blue, and the >350 comments? Someone please explain!
This seems like it would be a better question for MetaTalk.

It's basically a geek holiday -- an opportunity for techies and webheads to indulge their inner nerd by using ALL CAPS, which is a non-threatening way to mock non-techies, who frequently use ALL CAPS without realizing that it is considered rude and the online equivalent of SHOUTING.

TEH CAPS LOCK IS POPULAR BECAUSE SOMETIMES YOU DON'T WANT A PRODUCT THAT WILL NOT MARK CLOTHING OR UPHOLSTERY BUT WILL REPEL DOMESTIC RABBITS AND ALSO MAKE A FINE SAME-SEX ANNIVERSARY GIFT OR TIP FOR THE GUYS COMING TO CLEAN OUT YOUR HOUSE OR TRANSPLANT YOUR 32 BIT INTEGERS AND DEEPEN YOUR RELATIONSHIPS. SOMETIMES YOU FIND ANSWERS IN WISECRACKS. NOTE TO MATT; THIS IS A SERIOUS ANSWER. REPEAT SERIOUS.

I'm sorry. But this is a serious answer too, I'm using his answer and the subject in question as the basis of irony against which, oh, nevermind. But I am serious.

There's nothing to explain. It's like "Talk Like a Pirate Day." It's an incredibly moronic gag that would have to mount a stepladder to reach the Three Stooges. Y'know the idiots who "FIRST POST!!!" on Slashdot and who bob around here posting: "MetaFilter: What's with International Caps Lock Day?" It's a holiday for those brain-dead imbeciles, on the outside chance one of them ever gets a job.

The first time I saw a CAPS LOCK DAY post I thought "This is really stupid, I hope it gets deleted." Then I made the mistake of reading the thread and by the time I'd gotten through the first couple hundred comments I had completely gotten into the spirit of it.
I HAVE NO JOB AND I MUST CAPS-LOCK!

It's popular because there's nothing to discuss, nothing to bicker about and it's about having fun doing something silly where you don't have to look silly.

btw, two textarea tags in a row really breaks the preview, as you might expect.

Russmail--Thanks for asking. I was going to ask the same question but finally settled on sending a link to my daughter to see if she got it. This would not be the first post that sailed right over my head. Have pity whipper-snappers, the goats are trying.
