Is the abandoned power plant in Glenwood, NY still accessible, or still standing at all?

I've been meaning to explore and photograph this place for a while now, and had finally planned on doing so this weekend. However I just read in the caption of someone else's photo of the place that (as of a month ago) the plant is now a fenced-off construction site. I think they're planning on demolishing the building and redeveloping the land.

Legality issues aside - has anyone been by recently and/or do you know if it's still physically possible to get into the building? Is the building even there anymore, or am I too late?

There was a letter published yesterday in a local paper about saving the power plant, so it looks like it's still standing. There's a Change.org petition about it, too.

It looks amazing. I hope you can get in there.

Its still there.

The plant has always been fenced off and not easily accessible, but it is literally right next to Shore Road.

I doubt it can be rehabbed into anything as old buildings like that are filled with asbestos. An additional complication is that the neighboring complex is a superfund site where there is no one left to pay for the remediation. Not to mention the Exxon transfer station and LIPA small gas turbines located on the other side of the street.

I'm in my mid 30's and I don't ever remember the plant running on anything other than the hottest and coldest days, and not at all for the last 15 years or so.

Also I assume you are referring to the Glenwood Landing plant Ely linked to.

Response by poster: Oops, I think we're talking about different places unfortunately. The plant I'm talking about is actually in the Glenwood neighborhood of Yonkers, and is right next to the Metro North station there. My mistake.

Response by poster: I just took a short train ride to Yonkers and the building is indeed in the process of being demolished. It's still standing but completely gutted.

regarding the yonkers power plant - last i was there was a year ago and though there was a fence surrounding it it was still open. sorry i don't have any more recent information. definitely go before it gets torn down, it's quite lovely! wear sneakers and be prepared to climb some precarious steps, half of which are completely gone.
