Make iTunes emulate the iPod's menu mode

Is there a way to make iTunes emulate the iPod's menu mode?

Say I want to listen to a shuffle of all songs by a particular artist. Do you really have to create a new playlist each time you want to do that? Why can't you select by artist, genre, album, etc, like you can on your iPod?

I know you can sort the library by artist, then play them in order, but I want shuffling!

Type the artists name (or the album or whatever you want to shuffle) into the search box at the top. Turn on shuffle. Hit play.

Try bringing up the browser.

Edit Menu - Browser

Now you can click on a genre and control/shift/command click on a number of artists/albums

Then on the bottom left you can choose shuffle. It'll shuffle thorugh that selection.
