Make iTunes emulate the iPod's menu mode

Is there a way to make iTunes emulate the iPod's menu mode?

Say I want to listen to a shuffle of all songs by a particular artist. Do you really have to create a new playlist each time you want to do that? Why can't you select by artist, genre, album, etc, like you can on your iPod?

I know you can sort the library by artist, then play them in order, but I want shuffling!

Best answer: Type the artists name (or the album or whatever you want to shuffle) into the search box at the top. Turn on shuffle. Hit play.

Best answer: Try bringing up the browser.

Edit Menu - Browser

Now you can click on a genre and control/shift/command click on a number of artists/albums

Then on the bottom left you can choose shuffle. It'll shuffle thorugh that selection.
